Wizards blow out Celtics 89-116 in heated Game 3
The Washington Wizards managed to grab their win of their series against the Boston Celtics with a convincing, 89-116 victory. Boston still has a 2-1 advantage but Washington has shown that they can take them to the limit and even show that they can be the better team. The Wizards went on an insane 22-o run to pull away for good and never looked back. John Wall led Washington to this win with 24 points. They also got a big game from Marcin Gortat, who dominated on the glass with 16 rebounds, to go with his 13 points. Otto Porter had an efficient scoring night with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field.
It was intense as things got heated up when Washington’s Kelly Oubre violently shoved Boston’s Kelly Olynyk after he got flattened by a brutal screen. Olynyk was called for an offensive foul, having not clearly established position when he set the screen. Oubre was incensed and went after Olynyk, pushing him to the ground.
Oubre was ejected from the game. And while tempers may have flared in this game, both teams are set to refocus their attention on winning games and not let their intense emotions get the better of them.
Al Horford led the Celtics with 17 points. Isaiah Thomas cooled off after his 53-point game and ended this one with 13 points to his name. Even the biggest stars get go Supernova every night. Still, it is a team game and the Boston could not find anyone else to step up and take charge of the offense.
Utah Jazz 104 – Golden State Warriors 115
The Warriors cruise to a 2-0 lead in this series and show no signs of slowing down. They still hold a pristine 6-0 in post-season and, despite some minor injuries to some of their players and missing their head coach Steve Kerr, who is out indefinitely; have what it takes to dominate their competition.
Golden State made sure their plans on offense would be stifled nor slowed down by Utah’s defense. They exploded out of the gates and were never at risk of losing control of the game. The Jazz have shown that they have difficulty climbing out a big deficit.
The usually defense-oriented Draymond Green got in on the scoring party and dropped 21 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Not that the Warriors needed the extra boost on the scoring front. Things on that end were in the capable hands of Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, who scored 25 and 23 points, respectively. Still, any extra help is welcome. They shared the ball very well. The Dubs’ key starters had at least either six or seven assists apiece.
Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with a game-high 33 points and Rudy Gobert got a huge double-double with 16 points and 16 boards. He had his hands full on defense and even fouled out. Utah will need other players to step up to help out Hayward and Gobert.
