Westbrook averages triple-double for second straight season

 Russell Westbrook has accomplished the seemingly impossible. He is the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double in two consecutive seasons. The Oklahoma City Thunder closed out the 2017-18 regular season on Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies and Westbrook grabbed 20 rebounds and handed out 19 assists. This allowed him to finish the season averaging 25.4 ppg, 10.1 rpg and 10.3 apg. In 2016-17 the All-Star guard had impressive averages of 30.8 ppg, 12.5 rpg and 11.4 apg, which helped him bag the Most Valuable Player of the Year Award.

While the repeat performance is astonishing, Westbrook will have a tough time repeating as MVP. Both LeBron James and James Harden are both considered frontrunners for the award this year. Nonetheless, Westbrook’s accomplishment will go down in history.
