Turkish Airlines EuroLeague: Real Madrid Blows Out Fenerbahce

Turkish Airlines EuroLeague

For some teams in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague the next few weeks are all about qualifying for the playoffs. For others, those that are already qualified, it’s about preparing, fine-tuning their gameplans with their eyes on the prize – the championship.

Kicking things off in Round 25, one of the four games was between two top-4 teams. It was a rematch of last season’s finals series and in this game Real Madrid blew out league leaders, Fenerbahce Istanbul 101-86. Heads were turned as to how dominant the Spanish club was in this outing. Veterans Anthony Randolph, who led the way with 21 points and Sergio Llull, who turned back the clock to post an impressive 17-point, 10-assist double-double. When Llull is on point – like he was in this game, his ability to make his teammates better simply sends ripples that reverberate throughout the contest. He was pivotal in expanding on their 62-56 lead in the third quarter to blow the game wide open.

Fenerbahce brought a balanced offense to the arena five of their players managing to score in double figures. Konstantinos Sloukas was their top scorer with 15 points, while Jan Vesely and Marko Guduric added 12 points, apiece.

The message has been sent, the gauntlet dropped. Even with their laudable likely top-seeding into the playoffs, Fenerbahce dare not rest on their laurels.

Here are the other results of the games played:

  • Darussafaka 67-91 Panathinaikos
  • FC Bayern Muenchen 70-77 Maccabi Tel Aviv
  • BC Zalgiris Kaunas 98-64 Herbalife Gran Canaria
