Turkish Airlines EuroLeague: Olympiacos wins 2017 final repeat

Turkish Airlines EuroLeague

Round 6 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague regular season wrapped on Wednesday and as we look ahead to Round 7 tomorrow and Friday, one thing is clear. This season’s Turkish Airlines EuroLeague is one of the closest in memory, each team is capable of beating the others. Each can lose consecutively and winning in the same manner.

On Thursday, Olympiacos and CSKA Moscow attempted with victories to separate themselves from the rest, while Brose Basket and Valencia also tasted success.

Fenerbahce Istanbul vs. Olympiacos Piraeus, 83-90 OT

Olympiacos has looked a title contender as usual this season and in a repeat of the 2017 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the Greek giant got revenge on reigning champs Fenerbahce. However, nothing could separate the two teams through regulation time after Fenerbahce fought to tie the game in the fourth act. The champs could not carry the momentum into overtime as Olympiacos rallied to victory.

Brian Roberts led the winners with 21 points, while Georgios Printezis secured 18 points and Janis Strelenkis scored 16 points.

James Nunnally drained a game-high 22 points in the losing effort.

Crvena Zvezda Belgrade vs. CSKA Moscow, 59-85

Visiting Belgrade is no easy task, but CSKA made look a walk in the park as the Russian giant demolished the reigning three-time Adriatic League champs. The former Turkish Airlines EuroLeague winner scored consistently in each frame, topping 20 points across four quarters. That allowed a 17-22 scoreboard through halftime. In the third act, the Army Men wrapped the game with a 7-21 charge that made the fourth quarter a stroll.

Nando De Colo scored 16 points in the success, while Kyle Hines managed 13 points and 7 boards.

Taylor Rochestie poured in 15 points for Crvena Zvezda.

Brose Bamberg vs. FC Barcelona Lassa, 84-81

Brose Bamberg got tough at home to see off a dangerous Barcelona team, highlighting the nature of the competition this season. Barcelona exploded from the blocks with 38 points to 12 points in the first quarter. Bamberg’s task looked impossible, but the Germans rallied. 50 points over the next two quarters put the score at 62-66 through thirty minutes and had the momentum to complete the job in the fourth. Barcelona will be wondering how that first quarter lead collapsed.

Dorrel Wright was a consistent problem for Barca as he led Bamberg with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Rakim Sanders hit 17 points in the win, followed by Adam Hanga and Adrien Moermann with 14 points each.
