Turkish Airlines EuroLeague: Fenerbahce Wins Again

Turkish Airlines EuroLeague

Fenerbahce Istanbul (17-2) held onto their leadership of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings. They came through with a convincing road win over Herbalife Gran Canaria, 64-82 to start Round 19 of the 2018-19 regular season. Gran Canaria are now 6-13 and are a longshot to make the playoffs and will need to string together some miraculous wins to climb out of their hole. That said, there was no shame in falling to the best team in the league right now.

Fenerbahce was the only team to secure a road win out of the four games on tap. Nikola Kalinic helped secure the win on some hot 3-point shooting (3-of-3) and finished the night with a team-high 16 points. Jan Vesely had 13 points and seven boards to his name.

Gran Canaria got a huge game from Kim Tillie who dropped a game-high 21 points on some efficient scoring. However, aside from him only D.J. Strawberry scored in double figures for yellow shirts with 11 points.

At the end of the day, it was Fenerbahce’s better success in the 3-point shooting department that played key role. They made 9-of-18 shots from downtown compared to Gran Canaria’s 5-for-19 result from beyond the arc.

Here are the results of the three other games played last night in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Round 19:

  • Olympiacos 71-57 Khimki
  • CSKA Moscow 77-70 FC Bayern Muenchen
  • Maccabi Tel Aviv 99-83 FC Barcelona
