Strasbourg loses top spot in ProA

StrasbourgStrasbourg relinquished its lead in the French ProA table by losing at home to Chalons-Reims in a shock encounter on Saturday. A victory here would have ensured Strasbourg sole possession of first place in the ProA standings with one more win than trailing Limoges. However, after this 56-63 loss, the team slips to second behind their rivals who have a better head to head, although both teams have equal 11-2 records. As for Reims, the club has moved to a 6-7 in the mid-table melee.

A tight first quarter saw the teams trade buckets as the scoreboard remained close. However, as the 10 minute interval arrived the hosts had opened a slender one point lead at 20-19. The scoring eased in a second quarter that saw plenty of action at the basket, but the scores failed to rain. The teams locked 17 apiece through the frame to let Strasbourg maintain their one point lead, taking 37-36 into the long break. Another low scoring stanza in the third allowed Chalon-Reims to take control, as the visitors stopped Strasbourg at just five points through the entire quarter to lead 42-47 at the last split. In the final act the away team made their advantage count as they strode to a victory.

Da’Sean Butler led the winners with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Michael Morandais scored 11 points and Lionel Chalmers nailed 10 points.

Ali Traore was the only Strasbourg player to hit double figures, he back up his 12 points with 9 boards.
