It was a glorious Sunday for Spain after they bagged the 2019 FIBA U18 Europe Championship in Volos, Greece. They bested Turkey 57-53 in the finals.

Spain completed a thrilling comeback in the second half to emerge victorious. They were led by MVP Santiago Aldama, who came through with a game-high 23 points on 3-of-10 shooting from 3-point range and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Usman Garuba was a beast in the paint, delivering 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Spain had some key defensive stops in the third quarter that helped turn the tide of the game in their favor after staring down a 23-31 deficit after two quarters. At the end of the third period, Spain was able to cut Turkey’s lead down to just one point.

The fourth quarter still saw Spain retain the initiative and they managed to win it 15-10 and with it, the game.

Mustafa Kurtuldum led the Turkish squad with 19 points, but he was the only able to crack the double-digit scoring mark.

Spain now gets to celebrate a FIBA U18 Europe title after eight years. For now, the future looks bright for Spanish hoops.
