Serbia’s dominance of the FIBA 3×3 Basketball World Cup continued as the country claimed the 2017 edition of the tournament. A 21-18 win over the Netherlands handed Serbia its third title out four World Cup’s stretching back to 2012.

While FIBA 3X3 is still a firm understudy to full Basketball, it is quickly growing in popularity and importance. On the streets, it is the form of Basketball and the largest urban team sport in the world. Since 2012 and the inauguration of the FIBA 3X3 World Cup, the sport’s governing body has been working towards structuring 3×3 as a true form Basketball discipline.

The attempts have been largely successful, and from 2020 3×3 Basketball will be recognized as a full Olympic sport when it is part of the Tokyo games that year.

Serbia will undoubtedly be among the favorites in three years’ time. The country has taken to organized 3×3 better than most.

In Nantes France over the last week, the Serb team won seven games and dropped none on the way to the title. The team maintained its perfect record and collected a third World Cup in a thriller against the Dutch.

Dejan ‘The Maestro’ Majstorovic is a sharpshooting thrill for the fans, and once again he propelled Serbia with 11 points. Dusan Domovic Bulut, considered the best 3×3 player in the world, chipped in with 8 points. For his efforts, The Maestro was named tournament MVP.
