Sam Hinkie is Philadelphia 76ers’ new GM

The Philadelphia 76ers have hired a new General Manager and President of Basketball Operations. His name is Sam Hinkie. Hinkie has been with the Houston Rockets for the past eight seasons.

Hinkie has been part of the Rockets’ “analytics movement,” working closely with GM Daryl Morey. Hinkie is replacing Rob Thorn as President and Tony DiLeo as GM. Hinkie will soon be looking for a new head coach who will be willing to use basketball analytics and statistical analysis in making decisions with regards to the roster, lineups, and rotations.

Once he has a coach to work with, many questions regarding the team’s future will soon be answered such as the fate of Andrew Bynum who did not play the entire 2012-13 season.
