Royce O’Neale (198 cm, Baylor ’15) is on his way to Zalgiris Kaunas (Lithuania-LKL) for the 2017/2018 season. O’Neale joins Zalgiris after the team underwent a special season. They conquered the league, going 33-3 in league play which gave them a huge margin in the standings at first place. The playoffs were also dominated by Zalgiris which resulted in a Cup championship. Euroleague games are also on the schedule for the Lithuanian powerhouse. Last season, the team finished in tenth with a 14-16 record.
Now, the 24-year-old O’Neale comes onboard. He will add reliable bench scoring which has been on display against elite opponents recently. Last year, the small forward played for Gran Canaria (Spain-Liga Endesa) who finished seventh in the standings. O’Neale contributed with 7.5 ppg 5.0 rpg and 2.1 apg in a prominent bench role. The young American will probably see a similar role on his new team which looks to be a good thing. The dominance shown by Zalgiris will most likely continue in 2017/2018.
