Rajon Rondo out for two months

Rajon RondoThe Boston Celtics have suffered a setback in their pre-season preparations with the news that Rajon Rondo underwent surgery on Friday for a broken left finger.

The four time All-Star picked up the injury after falling at home on Thursday night, but the Celtics did not elaborate on the cause and nature of the break. The franchise said that the point guard will sit out six to eight weeks, meaning he is likely to miss out on the start of the season that tips off on October 28th.

Rondo’s continued injury problems will cause concern among the Boston Celtics coaches and front office as the franchise aims to correct a 2013/2014 season that saw the team pick up the third worst record in their history (25-57). During that campaign Rondo missed 40 games after major knee surgery and was replaced by Avery Bradley.

Bradley signed a new four year contract with the Celtics this summer and will fill in once again as Rondo recovers from his latest mishap. The injury to the starting guard will only fuel speculation over his future, with Rondo the subject of plenty of trade speculation during the summer and in previous years.

Rajon Rondo joined the Celtics in 2006 after being drafted by the Phoenix Suns. Last season he averaged 11.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 33.3 minutes from his thirty games.
