PGE Turow wins Polish SuperCup

PGE TurowReigning Polish TBL title holders PGE Turow Zgorzelec defeated 2014 Polish Cup champions Slask Wroclaw 85-70 in the SuperCup game. This contest is the curtain raiser for the season and pits the league and cup winners from the previous term against each other, with PGE Turow emerging victorious. The win puts Zgorzelec in good stead as they start to defend their TBL title this season and also compete in the Euroleague.

Despite the eventual ease of PGE Turow’s victory, it was actually Wroclaw that got off to the better start with Robert Skibniewskiego and Lawrence Kinnard striking from downtown to help a 1-8 run at the start of the game. The league champions had their own go to guys in Nemanja Jaramaz and Michael Chyliński and they paced a comeback before the teams started trading scores. After 10 minutes PGE Turow had turned things around and were leading 21-18. Slask started the second frame well and re-took the lead, but Zgorzelec managed to find a rhythm that sent them on a run to reclaim the advantage. A back and forth quarter ended as Wroclaw fought back to cut the deficit to one point at halftime (35-34).

The third quarter belonged to PGE Turow as Damian Kulig and Vlad-Sorin Moldoveanu started a streak that put them ahead by 7 points early in the stanza. The Cup winners from last season fought back again, drawing to within two points, but Turow was finding a groove and looked good in closing out the third quarter. After 30 minutes on the hardwood the score stood at 64-56 and PGE had control of the game with an 8 point cushion. The champions went up a gear in the final stint and carved open Slask at times to lead by 17 points before easing down the stretch to win the game.

Michal Chylinski had a game high 24 points for the winners, while Nemanja Jaramaz nailed 20 points, and Vlad-Sorin Moldoveanu offered 14.

Roderick Trice paced the losing effort with 15 points and Jakub Dloniak followed with 12 points.
