Othello Hunter, Maccabi Tel-Aviv stun Fenerbahce

Othello Hunter hit the game-winning two-pointer and Maccabi Tel-Aviv stunned Fenerbahce in another EuroLeague classic (77-78).

It was a late thriller at the Ulker Sports Arena in Istanbul, where no team led by more than eight points.

Hunter scored the go-ahead bucket for the Israelis, with 2.6 seconds to go, (77-78).

Derrick Williams had the chance to win the game for the Turks, but missed the three-pointer at the buzzer.

The victory lifted Maccabi’s record to 16-8 for a share of all-important fourth place in the standings with CSKA Moscow. Fenerbahce dropped to 11-13. 

In Moscow, Khimki defeated Crvena Zvezda (78-72) and put an end to a three-game losing streak.

On the other hand, Zvezda could not earn its second straight win in the EuroLeague.

Both teams now have identical records (10-14).

Playing excellent defensively, Valencia edged Bayern Munich on the road (59-66) and maintained a EuroLeague playoff push.

The Spaniards improved to 12-12 and climbed to the seventh place. On the other hand, the Bavarians fell to 7-17 and remained on the bottom of the standings.

Panathinaikos outscored Zenit Saint Petersburg 50-41 in the last 20 minutes of the contest and claimed a much-needed home victory (96-81).

Following a perfect start (30-11), the “Greens” saw the Russians go on a 16-29 run and cut the deficit to six at halftime (46-40).

The Greeks took over in the final part of the game and sealed the deal, playing very well offensively.

Panathinaikos won for the first time after two straight defeats in the EuroLeague and now are at 14-10.

For their part, Zenit dropped to 7-17 and are on the bottom of the standings.

Malcolm Delaney was unstoppable with 26 points and nine assists, leading Barcelona to the 84-80 victory over Armani Milano at home.

The Italians were in control in the first part of the game and were up by nine at halftime (36-45).

But, the Catalans went on a 48-35 run in the second half and earned the win.

Barcelona is tied with Real Madrid for second in the EuroLeague with an 18-6 record.

On the contrary, the Italians are at 11-13, tied with Fenerbahce for the eighth place.
