Team USA is hunting its third consecutive tournament win.

The draw for the 2016 Rio Olympics Basketball Tournament has been made, setting out the group phase and which nations will be pitted against each other in the race for the coveted gold medal.

Reigning champions, the United States, has avoided a tricky group has their gold medal defence underway with a clash with China, followed by Venezuela and Australia, the other countries that make up Group A so far. There will also be two other nations landing in the group to stand in the way of Team USA, but those countries will be decided through qualifying tournaments.

The 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament will take place during July in Italy, Philippines, and Serbia, deciding three more nations to make the Olympics Basketball Tournament in Brazil during the coming summer.

The other QQT will be placed in Group B, among a collection of countries who will have an eye on the grand prize and of snapping USA’s recent Olympics Basketball dominance. A group of death maybe, housing Argentine, Spain, Brazil, Lithuania, Nigeria, and the final QQT berth.

The draw was conducted in Mies, Switzerland, at the headquarters of FIBA, Basketball’s world governing body. The Olympic tournament gets underway August 6th and the top four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals.
