NCAA: Virginia Rains Down 18 Treys on Syracuse, Still No. 2 in AP Poll

On Monday, the University of Virginia put on full display a plethora of reasons why they’re the second-ranked team in the NCAA in the latest AP Poll.

The Cavaliers busted a game vs. Syracuse wide open in the second half to bag the victory 79-53. It was all about offense in this one and Virginia’s was on point as they combined for 18-of-25 shooting from 3-point range compared to 8-of-25 to that of Syracuse.

Kyle Guy accounted for eight of those aforementioned 18 triples en route to his game-high 25 points. Ty Jerome chipped in a 16-point, 14-assist double-double and De’Andre added a well-rounded line for UVA with 21 points, six boards, four assists, five 3-pointers and three blocks.

Elijah Hughes, Paschal Chukwu and Buddy Boeheim paced the Orange with 11 points apiece.

As of the latest AP Poll, Virginia holds steady at No. 2 with their 26-2 record. Gonzaga is still No. 1 with their 29-2 slate. After the top-2 though, things have tumbled and mixed around like a game of Jenga gone awry.

North Carolina moves up to the third spot, while Duke (still missing Zion Williamson) slides fourth. Tennessee rises to claim the fifth spot from seventh last week and Kentucky tumbles to sixth after holding onto fourth place previously. Virginia Tech rises five spots to 15th after placing 20th in the last poll. Marquette was one of the biggest fallers this week as slide to 16th after holding the 10th place last week.
