NCAA: St. John’s upsets top-ranked Villanova

NCAA St. John’s Red Storm have become somewhat of a giant-killing team recently. They recently stunned No.4 Duke University, 81-77 on Saturday. This Thursday the once lowly, unranked Big East team upset number-one ranked Villanova, 79-75. This has been an impressive 2-game run for St. John’s, to say the least.  Upsetting a top-tier team like Duke could have been chalked up as an outlier, a fluke. However, with their crushing defeat of the nation’s number one team, it’s undeniable that the Red Storm is doing something right.

A lot of credit goes to Shamorie Ponds, who poured in 26 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals against Villanova. He’s been on a tear, dropping 33 points in the win against Duke.

Jalen Brunson did his best to keep Nova in this game with his game-high 28 points, unfortunately, it was not enough to deliver the win

To their credit, St. John’s shot an impressive 49.1 percent from the field compared to just 41.8 percent by Villanova. Defense definitely played a key role in the outcome of this game.
