NBA shelves Uniform Ads Idea until April ’13

NBAAfter the marquee news stories were reported from the NBA Board of Governors meeting, namely the approval of the Memphis Grizzlies sale and Commissioner David Stern announcing his retirement, another hot topic got pushed aside and went relatively unnoticed, advertisements on uniforms.

The topic of the uniform ads has been around for a while in the NBA circles and with the current economic climate in the league, it’s never been more important or relavent, but the Board of Governors decided to table the issue until their next board meeting in April of 2013. Speculation is that they did it out of respect for Stern, who’s long been opposed of the move and with his announced retirement it’s thought that it was best to leave the discussions for another meeting. Should they decide to adopt an advertisement policy in April, they still give clubs and potential advertisers time to organize their efforts for the 2013-14 season.

Nice move. Though Stern always respected green daddy Buck and don’t have too much left against ads when it will bring another 1 bln to NBA.
