The NBA continues to be the biggest attraction in global Basketball. The league has today announced it has comfortably beat its attendance record. Through the 2016/2017 season, nearly 22 million fans have turned out to see teams play around the USA.

In a press report on Thursday, the NBA confirmed 21.9 million people have watched games live this season. The number has beaten last season’s record-breaking mark by over 25,000.

During this season, there have been 723 sell-outs, itself a record-equalling number that matches the 2015/2016 campaign. The NBA adds that the average attendance for a game is 17.884. This is the third consecutive season in which the attendance record has been broken.

The NBA Regular Season has wrapped and the Play-Offs will get underway on Saturday. Last year’s finalists, the Cleveland Cavaliers (Eastern Conference) and the Golden State Warriors (Western Conference) are once again favorites to make it through their brackets to the finals.

Interestingly, the Cavaliers are also the second most attended franchise in the league with an average of 20,562 fans per game. The Chicago Bulls are the most watched live Basketball team with an average of 21,680 people per game watching their games. Showing the strength of the competition, even the Denver Nuggets at the bottom of the average attendance list is drawing 14,770 fans per game.
