Malone, new King in Sacramento

Former Golden State Warriors assistant coach Michael Malone has agreed to be the Sacramento Kings’ new head coach. He signed a four-year deal worth a total of $9 million, with the fourth year being the team’s option. Mike comes from a coaching pedigree. He is the son of former NBA coach Brendan Malone. To his own merit, Mike Malone has been an assistant coach around the NBA for a decade now. He’s been an assistant for the Knicks, Cavaliers, and Hornets before joining the Warriors in 2011.

Former Kings coach Keith Smart had lost the favor and support of players and fans alike, due to “verbal altercations” in the locker room and at times seemingly nonsensical rotations. Malone will at least be working with a clean slate coming into training camp and will be looking to develop a clear direction for the team.
