University of North Carolina alum Michael Carrera (196 cm, South Carolina’16) will begin his pro career this 2016-17 with Russian club Avtodor Saratov (Russia-VTB). Michael is a 23-year-old Venezuelan-American player who has been a member of the Venezuelan national team since 2012. In his senior year at South Carolina (2015-16) Michael played 32 games and recorded averages of 14.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg. His school made it to the NIT Sweet 16. His solid play that season earned him spots in the NABC All-District 21 2nd Team, the USBWA All-District III Team, and the All-SEC 1st Team. Avtodor will be participating in the FIBA Basketball Champions League this season and the infusion of some young blood should ideally improve their chances of going deep into the tournament.
