Melvin Sanders signs with Karsiyaka

Not long after Melvin Sanders (196 cm, Oklahoma State’03) left Sigma Barcellona from Italy’s Lega2, he was quickly signed by Pinar Karsiyaka SK Izmir from Turkey’s TBL. Karsiyaka is currently fifth in the TBL standings with a record of 16-4. They are hoping that Sanders’ addition will be enough of a boost to keep the team competitive as they jockey for a slot in the post-season.

The 31-year-old Sanders brings a wealth of international basketball experience to Karsiyaka. He’s played in the NBA for the San Antonio Spurs and the Denver Nuggets. He was also part of BK Minsk-2006 when they won the Belarusian Cup in 2011. He is not unfamiliar with playing in Turkey. He played for Hacettepe University from Turkey’s TBL in the 2011-12 season and averaged 12.7 ppg and 8.9 rpg in 29 games.
