Marjan Lazovski resigns as coach of F.Y.R. of Macedonia’s NT

Marjan LazovskiMarjan Lazovski has stepped down as coach of F.Y.R. of Macedonia’s national team.

Having served as an assistant for five summers, including last year when the side went on a magical run to the Semi-Finals of the EuroBasket in Lithuania, Lazovski replaced Marin Dokuzovski at the helm and coached the national side at the 2012 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Venezuela.

F.Y.R. of Macedonia won just one of their three games, falling out of contention for a spot in the London Games after an 86-76 defeat to the Dominican Republic in the Quarter-Finals.
Lazovski, who is the coach of KK Fersped-Rabotnicki Skopje, wanted to leave the post for health reasons, and to focus on his club commitments.

The federation announced: “The MKF (National Federation) Board accepts the resignation of coach Lazovski on the basis of the excellent cooperation that the Federation had with him over the years, when he performed correctly and professionally all tasks in all the teams and projects in which he was engaged.

“By mutual agreement, the cooperation between the MKF and Lazovski will continue, but in another field, in other joint projects.

“The coaching position of our senior team is officially vacant.

“The sporting director, Vrbica Stefanov, and the director of national teams, Ilia Merdzhanovski, will actively engage in the process of finding a new and real solution.”

The federation added that it hopes to have a new man in charge when the draw for next year’s EuroBasket in Slovenia is held later this year.

It remains to be seen if two of the lynchpins, Pero Antic and Vlado Ilievski, will continue with the national team.

It was understood that both players wanted to stop their F.Y.R. of Macedonia careers but the federation has not ruled either player out.
