Liga Endesa: Morabanc Andorra Stuns Real Madrid

Liga Endesa Round 19 of the 2017-18 regular season in Spanish Liga Endesa was definitely one for the books as it came with its fair share of jaw-dropping surprises. The biggest of all of them was league-leader Real Madrid getting edged out by Morabanc Andorra 89-87 on February 3rd. This marked the end of an impressive 10-game winning streak that the league Titans were on, stomping on the other teams. Andorra’s valiant homestand proved that no team should be taken for granted nor overlooked. Despite dropping this game, Real Madrid retains a firm hold on the league’s top spot with their 17-2 record. Andorra gains some much-needed momentum with morale climbing to an all-time high. They are still very much in the hunt for a highly coveted playoff berth with their 10-9 slate.

The top-ranked Real Madrid was greeted with some energized play from their hosts. Luka Doncic was limited to just 15 points. Only he, Facundo Campazzo, and veteran Rudy Fernandez posted double-digit scoring performances.

Andorra took their game outside and bombarded their guests with 14 three-point shots. Landing Sane led all scorers in the game with 24 points. He made 6-of-10 shots from beyond the arc, stumping Real Madrid’s perimeter defense.

This slip by Real Madrid was a wake-up call. They should be able to bounce back soon enough and their fans shouldn’t be too worried about this setback.
