Italian Serie A 2018-19 Round 1 Recap

Italian Serie A The Italian Serie A wrapped up Round 1 of its regular season on Sunday and the 2017-18 defending champions AX Armani Exchange Milano celebrated a 103-92 win at home over Happy Casa Brindisi. They asserted their status of being the team to beat this season with the commanding victory. It was one of the more important games in the opening round, with all eyes being trained on the incumbent title holders to see if they’re in form to protect their crown.

Mike James, who had been on fire in the preseason, carried over his hot streak into the season opener of the domestic Italian League. He powered Armani once again to victory on the shoulders of his 20 points and five assists. He set the tone and led by example, as five other of his teammates got in on the action with double-digit scoring performances of their own.

AX Armani dominated Brindisi on the boards, cleaning up on the glass on both ends. The staggering 41-24 rebounding advantage was too much for Brindisi to overcome.

John Brown III and Adrian Banks did their best to keep Brindisi in the game, as they scored 19 points, apiece.

Armani set the tone with this win in the opening round but there’s a lot of basketball left to play with the 2018-19 Italian Serie A regular season still in its infancy stages. At the very least, they’ve gotten off on the right foot and are poised to begin racking up those wins.

There were some close games in the opening round. Varese edged out Germani Brescia 81-80 and Umana Venezia narrowly got past FIAT Torino 76-75, a testament as to how competitive the Italian Serie A is and how evenly matched some teams are.
