Gold stayed at home as Greece used home floor advantage to overcome Israel in the final of the European Championships U20. The Greek contingent came away with a 65-56 victory in Crete to ensure the trophy. Victory marks a third European Championships U20 title for Greece, putting the team only behind Serbia’s five golds in the all-time list.

After a gruelling week, the third and fourth positions were also decided on Sunday. France took out Spain 72-58 to take the bronze.

Greece vs. Israel, 65-56

Greece recovered from a losing first act to secure the European Championships U20. The hosts struggled in the first quarter and trailed 9-16 through 10 minutes. In the second frame, the Greek contingent bounced back with an excellent 17-7 run that made it 26-23 through the long break. The home team continued the momentum in the third act with a 22-18 haul that extended the advantage to 48-41 through thirty minutes. Greece continued to extend in the fourth quarter to victory.

Antonios Koniaris topped the win with 15 points, while Michail Lountzis secured 12 points. Vasileios Charalampopolous secured a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Yovel Zoosman scored a game-high 23 points in the losing effort.

France vs. Spain, 72-58

France was too strong for Spain in the game to decide third and fourth place. Les Bleus controlled substantial portions of the game, using a 15-20 first quarter and 10-19 second to amass a 25-39 halftime lead. Spain won the third frame 22-17 to reduce the deficit and put the scoreboard on 47-56 through thirty minutes. However, France went again in the fourth to secure the bronze.
