It’s a case of job Done for Goran Dragic, who has decided to retire from the Slovenia National Team. The point guard was an instrumental figure as Slovenia blazed through the European Championship. Dragic was an attacking architect and starred alongside Luca Doncic in Slovenia’s unbeaten run to the gold medal.
Goran Dragic stepped up when Doncic was injured in the final against Serbia and produced 35 points to lead the nation to its first ever international tournament win. For his own efforts, Dragic was awarded the MVP.
A key component of the roster at the Miami Heat in the NBA, Dragic says his commitments to the franchise mean he must step away from the national team. Slovenia’s qualifying campaign for the 2019 World Championship tips off in November and clashes with the NBA schedule.
Dragic says it is impossible to juggle his duties with the Heat and play in the qualifying games. However, he leaves on a high, helping Slovenia to make history and he will forever be a hero. There is also the slim chance that Dragic can return for his country in the future.
