Golden State wins in San Antonio to take insurmountable 3-0 lead

Kevin Durant

Once again, the Spurs were no match for the almighty Warriors. Golden State is clearly the better team in this series which is most likely going to end up as a sweep. Golden State is clicking on all cylinders while the hobbled Spurs are limping towards the end of their 2016/2017 campaign. San Antonio held their own in their first game of the series at home but still came away with a 120-108 loss.

Golden State Warriors 120 – San Antonio Spurs 108

There were moments in the third quarter where it looked like the Spurs had a chance to pull off the upset. They climbed back to make the score 74-71 with about eight minutes left in the quarter. However, they could not keep the Warriors from making a 15-4 run led by Kevin Durant. The third quarter was owned by Durant as he totaled 19 points in the quarter. Durant took over the game and carried the Warriors to the game-three victory. Steph Curry finished with 21 points as Klay Thompson just scored 17 which is way below their season averages. Without Durant, San Antonio might have won this game. The big scorer scored 33 points en route to a 3-0 lead. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the NBA playoffs, so a trip to a third-consecutive NBA finals is pretty much set in stone. Golden State is undefeated so far in the playoffs. Expect them to stay that way after this series.

San Antonio hung around but, to their standards, did not shoot the ball well. As a team, the Spurs shot 47.3 percent from the field and 20.8 from three. They didn’t receive a strong performance from their power forward, LaMarcus Aldridge, who has not played well in the series. He finished the game with 18 points and struggled all night on defense. He and center Pau Gasol allowed Javale McGee to overpower him in the paint as Mcgee boosted the Warriors in the first half with 16 first half points. It’s hard for Aldridge to keep up with the Warriors, especially after Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker went down. However, 18 points in a do-or-die game is not going to cut it if the Spurs want to have a shot. Now the series moves to game four on Monday where the Spurs will play for the life of their season.
