The Atlanta Hawks have announced that they will retire Dikembe Mutombo’s No. 55 jersey on November 24th in a game against the Boston Celtics. Mutombo was born on June 25, 1966, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. He spent five seasons with the Hawks out of his 19-year NBA career. During his career, “Deke” registered averages of 9.8 ppg, 10.3 rpg, and 2.8 bpg. Known for his finger-wagging taunt, Mutombo was a nightmare to play against in the paint. Aside from this recent announcement by the Hawks, Dikembe was also honored to be elected into the league’s Hall of Fame this year. He is one of the best African basketball players of all time.
