After a brief and bumpy run in the NBA, 57-year-old David Blatt is returning to Europe to resume his coaching career. He has agreed to terms with Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (Turkey-BSL). The Israeli-American was fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers in January 2016 and replaced by assistant coach Tyronn Lue. There was reportedly some serious friction between the decorated coach and some of the Cavaliers’ star players, most notably LeBron James.
Blatt sports a fat resumé filled with many successful years coaching European teams from Israel, Russia, Italy, Greece and Turkey. He piloted Maccabi Tel-Aviv (Israel-Winner League) to an amazing Turkish Airlines Euroleague championship in 2013-14. He also led the Russian national team to a bronze-medal finish at the 2012 Olympics.
