Darko Planinić leaves Široki for Maccabi Tel Aviv

Darko Planinić Darko Planinić will leave Adriatic League team Široki WWin from Bosnia and Hercegovina (Croatian part) and sign for Israeli powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv. The young talented big man of the Croatian National Team will play his last Adriatic League game for Široki tomorrow against MZT Skopje from Macedonia.

Other clubs from around Europe had also shown interest in Planinić and it was long rumored that he was going to Spain, but in the end it turned out to be Israel.

The transfer was confirmed by Ante Suton, the President of Široki WWin. Obviously Maccabi Tel Aviv will have to buy out Planinić from his contract and pay a transfer fee to Široki WWin. It is estimated that this amount is somewhere between € 250.000 and € 400.000.

For Široki WWin, selling players has become a lucrative way of financing the club. When Stanko Barać went to TAU Ceramica the club from Bosnia and Hercegovina received a € 900.000 buyout and this summer Fran Pilepić was sold to another Spanish club, Bilbao, for an undisclosed amount.
