Cameron Wells agrees with Openjobmetis Varese

Cameron Wells

Cameron Wells (186 cm, Citadel ’11) inked a deal to join the backcourt of Openjobmetis Varese (Italy-Serie A). Wells makes the move to the Italian squad after being a part of the Giessen 46ers (Germany-BBL) over the last three seasons. The point guard played a significant role for the 46ers which played a major part in the team being promoted to the BBL in the 2015/2016 season.

Last year was a career year for the 28-year-old guard. Wells recorded 14.0 ppg, 4.0 apg in 29.5 mpg. His three-point shot was falling at a 39.1 percent rate as well. When he is able to hit the three, the rest of the court opens up for Wells which led to his strong play. His efficient shooting will hopefully continue with his new team. Varese will look for him to be an impact player and are expected to enter him into the starting lineup.

His new team is coming off a disappointing campaign. They finished 12th in the Serie A standings which is leading to a change to the core of the roster. Varese also fell short of their expectations in the European Cup. They failed to survive Group C after going 4-10. This team made it all the way to Italian Supercup finals only three seasons ago. Seems like a long time after finishing no better than ninth since their magical 2012/2013 season.
