Buducnost tops ABA League Standings

Buducnost Montenegrin powerhouse KK Buducnost Voli Podgorica has surged to the top of the ABA League standings with their 4-1 record. Over the years Buducnost has remained one of the more dangerous clubs playing in the Adriatic League, having been a consistent mainstay in the playoff scene. They have been overshadowed by the Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda in recent seasons, however, at this stage (Round 5) of the 2017-18 season, it is Buducnost that has taken a leadership position in the league.

They recently came away with a dominant win over Mega Bemax, 84-64. Buducnost was in full control of the game from start to finish and even kept a firm hold thanks to a solid effort from its reserves. Nemanja Godic had a team-high 17 points, while Nikola Ivanovic punished Mega Bemax from the free throw line (11-of-11) and finished with 16 points of his own.

Dylan Ennis paced Mega Bemax with a game-high 23 points, but his individual performance was not enough to carry his team. He did not get enough support to keep the game within striking distance.

Behind Buducnost in the standings is a trio of clubs that are just one game behind them with 3-2 records. They are KK Cedevita Zagreb, BC Partizan, and Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd. Crvena Zvezda had a chance to keep pace with Buducnost but they fell at the hands of Cedevita in Round 5, 79-74.

The landscape will still shift as momentum can swing quite quickly in different directions. The race for first place is very tight and we could see another team grab the pole position soon enough. For now, Buducnost reigns supreme.
