Brandyn Curry moves to Donar Groningen

Brandyn Curry

Brandyn Curry (187 cm, Harvard ’14) is heading to Donar Groningen (Netherlands-Eredivisie). The move follows half of a season with Helios (Slovenia-Liga Nova KBM) where he played 25 games with the team. Curry split ways with Helios in January 2017. No team signed the American guard for the remainder of the season. The guard scored with efficiency while also racking up the assists in just 28.8 mpg in the Slovenian league. He scored 11.9 ppg while shooting 40 percent from three as well as dishing 5.6 apg.

Helios also competed in the Champions League last season but struggled to make a lasting impression. Going 2-12 in group play, they lost all hopes of making a deep run on the big stage. Curry was able to play 27.3 mpg in Champions League play while scoring 12.4 ppg with 2.6 apg.

Curry’s new team was not in the Champions League last year but did play for the FIBA European Cup. They qualified for the second round but failed to make the playoffs after finishing second in their second round group. It was a strong showing for the Dutch club which also went on to win the Eredivisie regular season title and the Dutch Supercup championship. Curry will bring a high basketball IQ to his new team which could make for an even better 2017/2018.

This will be his return to the Eredivisie as he played with SPM Shoeters Den Bosch (Netherlands-Eredivisie) in the 2014/2015 season. Then, he put up an impressive 14.9 ppg with 5.0 apg and 4.1 rpg. Donar Groningen must have liked what they saw in the young guard and surely hopes he can put up similar numbers next season.
