Benfica Basktall lifts 2017 Portugal SuperCup

Benfica Basketball

After missing out a year ago, Benfica Basketball reclaimed the Portugal SuperCup with a cruising 104-74 victory over CAM Madeira. The league champs are back in dominant form at the pinnacle of Portuguese hoops. Benfica won its record 27th league in April and also lifted SuperCup for a record 13th time. Aside from a blip in 2016, the club has won league and SuperCup five out of the last six seasons.

In the final, CAM Madeira had no answer for Benfica Basketball as the LPB champs strolled through the contest. However, the underdogs did manage to sneak a 20-22 lead through the first quarter. From there, Benfica moved through the gears, drilling 33 points in the second frame to lead 53-34 at the long break.

In the second half, the biggest club in Portugal continued the dominance, taking the third act 27-25 to extend to 80-59 through thirty minutes. The fourth quarter proved to be a formality as Benfica eased to the title.

Joao Soares drained 21 points in victory, followed by a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards for Carlos Morais and 13 points from Carlos Andrade.

Fabio Lima dropped 19 points for the losing effort, while Mario Fernandes topped at 16 points.
