ABA League semi-finals set

ABA League The ABA League 2016-17 regular season is officially in the books and the semi-final match-ups are now set. Crvena Zvezda “Red Star” MTS Beograd was the best team at the end of the regular season with their impressive 25-1 record. Croatian powerhouse KK Cedevita Zagreb finished in second place with a distant 20-6 slate. Red Star’s Serbian rivals, BC Partizan, come in third place (19-7) and Montenegrin Titans KK Buducnost Voli Podgorica rounds out the Top 4 with their 18-8 record.

Essentially, the last round of the regular season did not have a bearing on which teams would advance to the post-season. Crvena Zvezda is matched up against Buducnost, while Cedevita will face Partizan.

Red Star, is the clear and undisputed favorite to take down the title and defend their Adriatic crown for a three-peat. They played against Buducnost in one of the two last games of Round 26 and it was a massive blowout win in favor of the Serbian club, 82-66. If that was any indication of what their playoff match-up will be like, then it looks like Crvena Zvezda is up for a big advantage. Charles Jenkins and Luka Mitrovic will anchor Red Star’s offense, but it is the team’s tenacious defense that will be the biggest obstacle for an upset by Buducnost.

Only one game separated Cedevita and Partizan at the end of the regular season and either team is capable of winning over the other, depending on which one will get to dictate the flow of the game.

Both Partizan and Crvena Zvezda are the winningest teams in league history and the stage is now set for a potential epic clash between these two Serbian rivals.
