7DAYS EuroCup: Top 16 Wednesday action

7DAYS EuroCup

We’re at the business end of the 2017/2018 7DAYS EuroCup season and the Top 16 is now underway in the competition. There was a full schedule of games across Groups E through H on Tuesday on Wednesday. Through the second day of action there was plenty to talk about as the best remaining teams in the 7DAYS EuroCup clashed

GROUP E

In a typically heated Istanbul derby on Wednesday, Darussafaka defeated former 7DAYS EuroCup champ Galatasaray with a cruising 65-84 road win. The victory was all the more impressive as Darussafaka thrived without Regular Season MVP Scottie Wilbekin. However, the star man was not missed as JuJuan Johnson, Howard Sant-Roos and Michael Eric all recorded double-double games. Johnson really stood tall and grabbed a career high 28 points to sit with his 12 rebounds. Sant-Roos drained 15 points and took 10 boards.

GROUP F

Zenit St. Petersburg also won on its travels, but had a tougher time than Darussafaka. The Russian club made the journey to Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius and grabbed an important 96-98 success. While the final scoreboard was tight, Zenit actually controlled large portions of the game thanks to a 6-24 run in the second quarter. The guests were 11 points up in the fourth act, but had to weather a Rytas storm as the hosts rallied late on. Zenit doubled from the charity strip with seconds to go and strung some defensive plays to see out the game.

GROUP G

Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar sent a message and remained the only team without a defeat this season with a rallying comeback over Buducnost VOLI Podgorica. The 62-68 road win came after Buducnost had led 37-24 at the long break. Lokomotiv tightened the game in the second half and took the lead in the third act. Dustin Hogue was the big star for Dolomiti Energia Trento, helping the team to fight back from 18 points down to record an 83-72 home win over Cedevita Zagreb. In the absence of top scorer Dominique Sutton, Hogue drained 27 points and managed 13 from 16 at two point range to pace the win. He made his a double with 10 boards.

GROUP H

Unics Kazan edged ASVEL at home, but needed overtime to collect an 88-84 victory. The teams locked 77 apiece through regulation and went into the added period, where ASVEL’s John Roberson scored all his teams points. The American was continuing his fine form, which saw him grab the Round 10 MVP at the end of last year. It was ultimately not enough as Unics Kazan edged it late on.
