| A 3-time Big South All-Conference second-team selection, Chris Oliver started in 87 games during his four-years at the Virginia school and finished his 4 years at Radford as the school’s all-time rebounding leader (845), #3 in career scoring (1,659 points), #4 in career blocked shots (104) and #11 in career steals (136). A very athletic forward with skills, Oliver, whose metabolism has slowed his ability to add weight to his wiry frame, was only being able to play at over 200-pounds for his senior campaign. He currently weighs 215 and should play professionally at over 220. He’s an active player, with good knowledge of the game, who shoots the ball well from mid-range and can play over the rim (he is known for his dunking ability). Oliver has deceptive strength for his wiry frame, which coupled with his length/wingspan and his quickness/speed/verticality, allowed him to play both forward spots. He proved to be a difficult matchup for most opponents. Oliver was a marked man for his senior season, the subject of numerous special defensive schemes and tactics. His career high for points in a game was 36, which he scored against VMI as a senior (Oliver had 3 games of 30 points or more in his college career). His 18.8 points per game this season, carried Radford, ranking him as the 48th highest scorer in NCAA Div. I. Set his career best for rebounds with a 28 point-19 rebound effort against Campbell this past season. He also set his career high of 5 blocks in that contest. Chris also achieved his career high game in steals (6) this past season against Richmond. He can shoot the 3 (he made 45 from behind the arc his last 3 seasons), but his percentages suffered as he was often forced to shoot late in the shot clock. Oliver had 24 double-double performances in his collegiate career, including 11 double-doubles during Radford’s past season. He was named All-Tournament at all three of Radford’s early season tournaments this year and he was the Big South Player of the Week once this season (he earned Big South Player of the Week five times in his three seasons at Radford). Chris Oliver is an exciting player, skilled with dynamic athleticism, who should be an even better player as a professional. Graduated from Radford with a degree in Finance and a minor in economics. |
