David Patten had a superb performance in July, 2009 at the 11th Annual Court Side Pro Camp in Las Vegas, leading his team to the championship, being the leading scorer in the championship game (22 points), being the second-leading scorer in the camp (18.3 ppg) and being the leading 3-point percentage shooter (67% from 3, 8 of 12 in 3 games). He confirmed to the dozens of teams present that he's playing the best basketball of his life, after having an uneventful first two professional seasons in Europe, hindered by injury and bad team chemistry. Patten is an excellent shooting big man, who is athletic enough to get out in transition, often wowing the crowd with his high-flying dunks. He's skilled, a finesse player with a strong face-up game. Patten can knock down the 3 from deep, can come off picks and drill the jumper, or he's also adept at putting the ball on the dribble and attacking the basket. An excellent college basketball player, who was an All-Conference honoree, David Patten got his feet wet in professional basketball as a rookie in LEB2 in Spain (2007-08). However, he was hobbled by an ankle injury, which affected his play, eventually, forcing him to leave the club to finish his rehabilitation in the United States. He received several offers after showcasing at the 2008 Court Side Pro Camp in Frankfurt, Germany, deciding to go to Poland. But the Polish coach who wanted him so badly after scouting him in camp, had a change of heart and released David at the end of training camp. Later on in the season, he joined a Dutch team, but the team had bad chemistry and didn't afford Patten a chance to truly showcase his game. An Associated Press (AP) All-American (honorable mention) selection in 2007, David Patten led his Weber State Wildcats, who had finished last in the Big Sky Conference in 2006 to a major turnaround, improving from 4-10 to 11-5 this season and winning the conference championship. Patten was the regular season Big Sky MVP and was also named the postseason Big Sky Conference Tournament MVP. Though forced to play center (his natural position is small forward/power forward) for the benefit of his team, Patten is naturally a face-up perimeter threat, a strong shooter from behind the 3-point arc and blessed with the ability to put the ball on the floor. Athletic, Patten runs transition well and often finishes over the rim. Had 54 dunks as a senior, breaking the school record. Often been compared to former NBA star Tom Chambers (white, tall, very vertical, dunks, shoots 3s). Has toughness too (received a cheapshot elbow in his senior conference playoffs, breaked his cheekbone, but still kept playing. 48 hours later, he had 22 points in a Weber State win over rival Northern Arizona. Patten had surgery the next day. Three days later, (wearing a protective mask)he scored 19 points against Eastern Washington). Was a top volleyball player too, but has given up the sport to concentrate on basketball (he played both basketball and volleyball as a college freshman at Pepperdine. He played on the Pepperdine volleyball team that played in the NCAA Final Four that year. Was later invited to the USA National Volleyball Team tryouts.).
