| A rugged, physical and skilled inside player, David Chiotti had a strong collegiate career at the University of New Mexico, which saw him honored three times as an All-Mountain West Conference all-star selection (2006 2nd team, 2005 3rd team pick, 2004 honorable mention). Chiotti was a four year starter at the University of New Mexico; he scored over 1,100 points and garnered over 600 rebounds in his career at UNM, totals which made him the 20th leading career scorer and the 12th leading career rebounder, respectively, in the storied history of Lobo basketball. Chiotti started the final 70 games of his New Mexico career. Known for his passionate play, Chiotti brings energy and effort to the floor; he makes hustle plays. Chiotti runs the floor well for his size and has good verticality (33-inch vertical leap). Has really developed into a back-to-the-basket scoring threat, with an arsenal of post moves. Does not force bad shots. Led New Mexico for each of his four years in field goal percentage (53,7% for his career). Primarily an inside scoring threat, Chiotti has improved his shooting range and has good consistency to 15-feet. A good shot blocker, he had 74 rejections in his 4 years in Albuquerque, ranking him 11th in school history. Chiotti is also a solid post defender, who usually guarded the opposition’s main inside threat. Chiotti held Utah All-American (and NBA #1 pick) Andrew Bogut (Milwaukee Bucks) to six first-half points in the MWC championship game as a junior. Chiotti is known for his toughness, coachability (really developed his game after arriving on the UNM campus) and team play (he is an underrated passer), someone who knows how to play the game correctly. |
