Michael Rembert is a strong professional prospect who has overcome major injuries in his college career, and looks to embark on his European professional career. When healthy, which he currently is (July, 2008), Rembert was a major factor as a starter for Southeast Missouri State (SEMO). Rembert started his college career at Bradley University (Peoria, Illinois), then transferred to SEMO for his final two seasons. He was averaging 9.9 points and 5.8 rebounds, while shooting 56.6% from the field, starting the first 23 games of the season before a knee injury forced a premature end to his junior campaign. He rehabbed the knee throughout last summer and, admittedly, came back a little too early. Rembert was less than 100% when the season started and he played from the beginning of the 2007-08 campaign, while his knee and game worked to get back to normal. By the end of the last season, Rembert's knee and timing had improved considerably and he had a couple of double-double games, including 17 points and 19 rebounds (35 minutes) against Eastern Kentucky in February. Michael is a big, strong inside presence, who rebounds and shoots a high percentage inside. Rembert has good hands, good feet and runs the floor relatively well for his size. He is physical, but has good shooting skills, able to knock down the 3-point shot (he shot over 34% from 3 in two of his collegiate seasons... including 37% from 3 as a freshman at Bradley). He is very comfortable playing back-to-the-basket, able to utilize a nice jumphook or turnaround jumper. And he is also good facing-up with the ball. Michael scored in double-digits in 21 games during his abbreviated two seasons at SEMO (with a career high of 20 points versus Jacksonville State); he had double-digit rebounds in six SEMO games. He is a serious player, who was an excellent student, graduating with his degree during his junior year at SEMO. He is married and recently (this summer) celebrated the birth of his first child (a boy who weighed an incredible 13-pounds at birth). He played very well at the recent Eurobasket camp in Chicago, where he averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds and received praise as one of the top big men in the camp.
