| Michael Muller is a late-blooming big man, who is really starting to play good basketball and making major improvements in his game. He's a big, strong and physical post player with solid fundamentals and an aggressive nature. He has good hands, runs the floor well and does crash the boards. Muller has solid post moves and scores around the paint. For someone so talented, his college career was unusual in that it wasn't noteworthy. By his own admission, his performances in college were disappointing. Part of this has to do with his late emergence, unlike most college players, Muller, who was 6'9 in high school, did not make his high school varsity at Aquinas HS in La Crosse, Wisconsin, until his 12th grade year. By that time, Muller, not thinking that basketball would be a major part of his future, had already enrolled into the United State military (he joined the United States Army National Guard in the 11th grade). The National Guard (unless your unit is deployed into full-time military action, such as service in Iraq or Afghanistan) is usually a weekend commitment, once a month. Muller enrolled (on partial scholarship) at Winona State University (a NCAA Division II power), where the then 215-pound freshman was redshirted. In his second season at Winona (2005-06), Muller's role on the team was hindered by his required military service (he spent a month off campus during the fall school semester, at Basic Training, a military requirement, during the basketball season). He was a reserve for WInona State in '06/07 and '07/08, playing behind NCAA Div. II Player Of the Year John Smith. His game never got it's feet at Winona State. Since leaving college, Muller has made dramatic improvements. Especially after an intense individual training program in the summer of 2011. He's a legitimate talent with his back to the basket, who will only improve with more experience. |
