| From a young, inexperienced college prospect, Gabriel Hughes has used his overseas professional career to emerge as a strong rebounding post player, who makes his living in the paint. Now 7-feet tall and a solid 250-pounds, Hughes spent the 2008-09 season in the U.S., having some strong moments in the NBA Development League (D-League) for the Los Angeles Lakers' franchise, the D-Fenders. He showed that he can play with some of the best big men in the world. Among his best individual performances was: a 21-points, 14 rebounds (34 minutes) game; a 22 points, 15 rebounds (30 minutes) game; a 19 points, 9 rebounds 25 minutes)game, a 15-points, 7 rebounds (23 minutes) game. Hughes has always been a strong rebounder and he's won the rebounding title (#1, most rebounds per game) in his stints in Ireland, Romania and China (summer league). He's a good shot blocker for his size, he runs the floor better than the average player his size, and he can handle physical play. Offensively, his game has improved considerably in recent years and he's got a shot shooting touch to 15-feet. He can score with his back to the basket, often utilizing a soft jump hook. Hughes loves the game and plays with pride and passion. Gabriel is a devoted family man (married with two young children) and he's no maintenance off-the-court. |
