Ray Allen officially retires

Ray Allen has finally made it official. The 41-year-old sharpshooter has announced his retirement. Even though Allen last hit the hardwood back in the 2013-14 season with the Miami Heat, there have been multiple rumors that circulated last season and this summer regarding his potential return to the NBA. He was linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors and a couple of other teams; but nothing concrete ever materialized.

He was drafted fifth overall in the 1996 draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He and a 1998 first-round pick were traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Stephon Marbury.

He is a 10-time All-Star and has won two NBA championships. He won the first title with the Boston Celtics as a member of their “Big 3” in 2008. Allen would win his second title with the Miami Heat in 2013, as a critical role-player for the team. He will be remembered as one of the league’s best shooters of all-time. Allen currently holds the NBA record for most three-point shots made at 2,973. He is expected to become a Hall-of-Fame inductee as soon as he is eligible.
