NBL Canada approves Ottawa team for 2013-14 season

(TORONTO, ON) The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that the City of Ottawa expansion bid has been approved for the 2013-2014 season.

After reviewing the Ottawa ownership group’s application, NBL Canada’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to bring professional basketball to the great City of Ottawa.

“I’m truly excited for the City of Ottawa being awarded a new professional basketball organization”, said NBL Canada President & CEO, Andre Levingston. “I know the owners, and players will do a tremendous job of supporting the community along with serving as role models for the youth of Ottawa. I’m confident our nation’s capital will embrace this amazing opportunity and support their club.”

The new Ottawa professional men’s basketball team will hold a press conference, Wednesday, November 21st, at 3pm at the Scotiabank Place – Gate 3 entrance in Ottawa, Ontario.

The Ottawa ownership group will officially introduce themselves and greet the public. The City of Ottawa, Ontario’s Mayor, Jim Watson, along with other key stakeholders will be in attendance for this occasion.

With the addition of Ottawa, the basketball franchise will bring unique benefits to the city while performing on Canada’s national stage with the pride of participating in the National Basketball League of Canada.

The new Ottawa organization becomes the ninth team in the National Basketball League of Canada.
