Jordan wins WABA Championship

JordanJordan has won the 2014 WABA Championship, the country’s first title at the tournament in nearly a decade. The Jordanians have been in supreme form throughout the West Asia Basketball Association league and have now booked a place in Asia’s premier international tournament, the FIBA Asia Cup, which will be played in Wuhan China from July 11th to 19th.

Jordan claimed a clean sweep during the competition by winning all five of its games, the last success a crushing 74-57 win over Palestine. The winners left the likes of Iraq, Yemen, and Syria in their wake, while Iran trailed in second place with a 4-1 record. Speaking of the Iranians, their place in the Asia Cup is already booked after the country won the FIBA Asia Championship last year in the Philippines.

In fact, the Iranians played their U18 squad during the WABA Championship in a bid to ready its youth players for the FIBA Asia U18 Championship in Doha in August.
