Helios Suns Secure 2nd Slovenian League Crown

Helios Suns It’s been almost a decade, but well worth the wait as the Helios Suns Domzale win their second Slovenian Telemach League title after defeating Zlatorog Lasko in Game 4 of the league Finals. The last time the organization held the gold trophy over their heads was in 2007. They locked down the Best-of-Five series with an impressive 64-56 win at home.

The guests came into the game ready to play their best for this must-win game. Zlatorog secured an early 14-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. The hosts came back swinging in the second period and the score was left at 30-29 as both teams headed to their respective locker rooms for the halftime break.

The turning point in the game came in the third frame. A combination of solid defense and good transition offense catapulted Helios to surge ahead with a dominant 17-9 period. Just like that, the game boiled down to who wanted it more and who had more left in the tank in the fourth and final quarter. With a sense of urgency Zlatorog mounted a rally to bring the game within two points (56-54) with two minutes left in regulation. Helios’ hero for the game, Marijan Cakarun, came up big when his team needed him most and knocked down some big shots down the stretch to lift his team to victory. Marijan finished the night with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Hugh Robertson chipped in 11 points and four assists for Helios.

Dejan Jeftic was the top scorer for Zlatorog with 12 points. Goran Jurak added 10 points.
