Former NBA big man Hassan Whiteside (213 cm, Marshall’10) will be playing for Al Moutahed Tripoli from Lebanon’s Division A this season. Whiteside was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the second round, 33rd overall, during the 2010 draft. The Kings had a stacked frontcourt and there was no room for Hassan to be developed or utilized on the team.
He was released by the Kings after the 2012-13 preseason. Hassan then signed with the Sioux Falls Skyforce (D-League). After playing seven games and averaging 10.3 ppg and 7.7 rpg he later moved to Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He was able to play in 25 games for Rio Grande and hit averages of 5.7 ppg and 4.7 rpg with 2.0 bpg. Whiteside had a brief stint in Lebanon for Amchit, playing in three games and averaging 17.3 ppg and 12.7 rpg.
Whiteside’s last team was Jin Qiang Sichuan from China’s NBL. He averaged 25.7 ppg and 16.6 rpg with a whopping 5.1 bpg in 27 games.
