Groningen wins Dutch SuperCup

GroningenDonar Groningen overcame Shoeters Den Bosch 88-51 in the Dutch SuperCup to cement its position as the best team in the Netherlands before the 2016/2017 gets underway. The Dutch Basketball League title holders were far too strong for Dutch Cup winners Den Bosch, who could not defend the SuperCup win they registered in 2015.

Groningen has picked up right where it left last season and collected the first trophy of the Dutch seasons. The league champs were strong in the first quarter, draining 28 points on the way to a solid 12 point lead through ten minutes (28-16). Den Bosch won a tight second frame, but only by enough to cut the deficit to 10 points heading into the long break. Donar erupted again in the third act, using an explosive 28-9 run to put the game to bed for good.

Drago Pasalic paced the winning effort with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Jason Dourisseau added 19 points and Chase Fieler chipped in with 12 points.

Valentijn Lietmeijer scored 18 points in the losing effort.
