Greenville College (NCAA Div III) is the highest pace team on the planet. Thanks to basketball analytics and advanced statistics it is now possible to determine which pace (tempo) a team plays.
Greenville uses an average 108,3 possessions per game which rank them the highest of any team in the world. So far Greenville has already had seven games in which they scored 145 points or more. But although Greenville plays at the highest pace and averages most points they do not rank among the 20 best offensive teams. Not even in NCAA Div III. That honor goes to Benedictine (IL) with and Offensive Rating of 124,3 (points scored per 100 possessions). Nevertheless, the barn-burning run and gun style of Greenville sure is fun to watch. In a game on November 22nd, Greenville played against NAIA team Lincoln Christian and scored an incredible 178 points (no OT)! Lincoln Christian Associate Head Coach Brady Cremeens said afterward:
“It’s hard to learn much from a game like this. They shot 72 threes. That’s a fairly unique style of ball. In many ways, it’s fun to watch. We were not equipped to handle their pressure press and didn’t do enough defensively to slow them down. Props to them. That was quite a feat.”
The fastest team in Europe is Soukhoumi from Georgia with a pace of 81,9. If you are interested in a more in-depth breakdown of global team and player stats, then Court Side provides Advanced Basketball Statistics for its members.
