Cleveland Cavaliers win 2016 NBA Championship!

Cleveland Cavaliers The Cleveland Cavaliers have made NBA history by becoming the first-ever team to comeback from a 3-1 deficit and go on to win the NBA championship. The Cavs defeated the Golden State Warriors 93-89 in a tightly contested Game 7. LeBron James, who was named the Finals Most Valuable Player, was finally able to fulfill his promise to his fans that he would end the City’s 52-year championship drought. James came through in Game 7 with an impressive triple-double performance with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Credit must go to coach Tyronn Lue and the Cavaliers’ defense. Cleveland limited Golden State Warriors’ All-Star backcourt of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to scoring 17 and 14 points respectively. It was forward Draymond Green, who had been quiet on the offensive end over the last several games who ended up erupting for 32 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists.

Kyrie Irving

The game was close all throughout, with neither team able to pull away and establish a double-digit lead. In the end, it all boiled down to the dying minutes of the game, when Kyrie Irving managed to shake off Stephen Curry and pull up for the clutch three-pointer with 53 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Cavs by three points. The go-ahead three was enough of an edge for Cleveland to hold on. Irving finished the night with 26 points. A lot can be credited to his presence in this Finals series. Last season he had watch the finals  from his hospital room as he recovered from knee surgery, helpless to help out his team. iBoth he and LeBron James provided the bulk of the team’s offense throughout this Finals series.

James was overwhelmed with emotion and fell to floor in tears after the final buzzer sounded. Coach Lue was seated on the bench with his head buried in a towel, clearly moved as well.
